Robin Soderling defeated Tomas Berdych and advanced to the French Open final 2010

Robin Soderling defeated Tomas Berdych 6-3 3-6 5-7 6-3 6-3 to advance to the French Open final where he will play against the winner of the match between Rafael Nadal and Jurgen Melzer .

Soderling served 18 aces, overcame 63 unforced errors and swept the final four games of the three-and-a-half-hour match.

It was only the fifth five-set win in the Swede's career.

“It was more than tough,” Soderling said. “Tomas played really well today.

“It was really tough for me to play my game, because he was hitting the ball so hard and so flat. Everything was 10 centimetres from the baseline.”

“It’s unbelievable. When I came here, I was thinking about only the first round, getting past the first round. Now, two weeks later, I am in the final again. It’s better than the best dream ever,” he added.

Soderling claimed the opening set with just 1 break. He broke when Berdych double-faulted on break point in the 6th game.

Berdych began to find his range to win the second and third sets. He had a chance to break Soderling right at the start of the fourth but the Swede pummelled down an ace.

Soderling struck in the sixth game, breaking when Berdych netted a backhand, to set up a deciding set.

After trading early breaks in the fifth, Soderling broke twice more to reach his second grand slam final.
